About Cornell IEEE

As a student-run organization, Cornell IEEE serves the students and faculty of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. As part of the oldest electrical engineering schools in the nation, we strive to preserve its many traditions and accomplishments. The interaction between faculty and students is our number one goal as it fosters tremendous interest and participation.

As one of more than 1,150 student IEEE branches at universities worldwide, Cornell IEEE strives to keep the students updated on current engineering news and breakthroughs. Working with the university and corporations, we try to bring in speakers who are leaders and innovators in their respective fields to share their 'words of wisdom' to the next generation of engineers, managers, and scientists.

Our office is located in Phillips 302.

About IEEE

The national IEEE (Eye-triple-E) organization is a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 380,000 individual members in 150 countries. The full name is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., although the organization is most popularly known and referred to by the letters I-E-E-E.

Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.

Through its technical publishing, conferences and consensus-based standards activities, the IEEE produces 30 percent of the world's published literature in electrical engineering, computers, and control technology. IEEE also annually holds more than 300 major conferences and has nearly 900 active standards with 400 under development.

Membership

The Cornell IEEE welcomes students of all majors, concentrations and grade-levels who are interested in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Membership to the Cornell IEEE provides you with a forum to voice your opinions about past, present, and future issues associated with ECE or IEEE. It allows you to suggest activities, projects, corporate info sessions, and many more, as well as to actively participate in bringing them life. The fee to join is $10, payable at any IEEE event or meeting (see below).

Membership to the international IEEE provides you with articles and previews of the most recent breakthroughs in world of technology through the IEEE Spectrum and IEEE Potentials. It provides you with discounts on more than 15,000 IEEE books, journals, videos, and self-study courses. See benefits for even more reasons to join!

Meetings

Meetings are usually once a month and are announced on the IEEE mailing list, IEEE-L. Meetings are open to all, regardless of membership status.
