Resume CD Submission!

October 8th, 2009 by admin -->

Greetings IEEE members,

We are now going to begin taking submissions for our resume CD!  This is a great opportunity to get seen by lots of companies.  We give this CD out to companies that host information sessions with us, and also send them out to our corporate contacts (especially those that were not able to have info sessions at Cornell this year).  It’s a great way to get exposure.

In order to be eligible to submit a resume, you must be either an IEEE National student member (paid the $32 through the IEEE website) or a Cornell IEEE branch member ($5 per year).  If you haven’t paid, you may pay at our next G-body meeting, or during the officer office hours, which will be posted over Fall Break.

To submit your resume please do the following:

1. Specify in the title of your resume whether or not you are applying for full time or internship positions (see below).

2. Follow the submissions guidelines (below).

3. E-mail the document to ieee.cornell@gmail.com, with the subject as: IEEE Resume Book (please do this - we filter our e-mails and if you don’t have the right subject line, it may get lost).

IEEE Resume Submission Guidelines:

1. Resumes must be 1 page, black and white, PDF documents
2. Resumes submitted for internships / part-time positions, please name:
- LastName, FirstName-parttime.pdf
3. Resumes for full time positions please name:
- LastName, FirstName-fulltime.pdf
4. You may submit 2 resumes (one part time and one full time) if you so desire.

The Submission Deadline will be Sunday, November 1st, by midnight!

IEEE T-shirt competition 2009!

October 6th, 2009 by admin -->

Greetings everybody,

Did you think the ECE t-shirt design last year could’ve used some improvement?  Would you like to display your mad graphics skillz in a creative and funny way?  Or do you want to win a free T-shirt and gift cards?

Then come to the IEEE meeting TODAY, (there will be ice cream, insomnia cookies, and drinks!)

October 6th from 4:45PM-5:30PM, in PH 213

IEEE will be presenting the guidelines and rules for our new ECE t-shirt competiton!

The competition will begin that day and run for 3 weeks.

At the end, every ECE student will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite t-shirt design, and then we’ll get them made and start selling.  The top 3 designs will win prizes.

At this meeting we will also be taking suggestions for possible town house meetings in the future.  A town house meeting is one where students, faculty, and the ECE director gather to discuss issues that are critical to the ECE student population.  Topics may include course structure, research facilities, or anything else you can think of that could improve the ECE experience.

Hope to see you there,

General Body Meeting and membership details!

September 23rd, 2009 by admin -->

Greetings everybody,

This Thursday (9/24) there will be another IEEE gathering in the ECE Lounge on the second floor of Phillips Hall, from 4:45PM-5:45PM.  We have lots of ice cream that needs eating, so come hungry, and sign up for membership!  Come socialize with other ECE majors, and learn about upcoming IEEE activities for the semester.

Just to be clear, here is our current membership policy:

Ice cream (non-member): $1

Cornell IEEE branch membership:
$5 for the year, gets you discounts on events (and eventually t-shirts) and free food at our meetings (eventually you’ll get a little membership card, we’re working on it), and you support local IEEE activities.  We will also increase your awareness of existing campus resources, such as free software through microsoft (msdnaa), the IEEE spectrum magazine (http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/

), and IEEE Xplore, which allows you to search through journal articles on campus.

National IEEE membership: $32 per year for student membership (grad or undergrad), you need to sign up for it through the IEEE website (http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/join/join.html).  You’ll get access to e-mails about conferences and seminars, discounts on conferences, and access to tons of resources (some of which are already given to you by Cornell, some of which are purely IEEE provided).  For a full list, go here:  http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/benefits/index.html

We have this policy because there are many people who do not necessarily want to become members of national IEEE, but would like to support the local chapter.  If you are already a national IEEE membership, you are automatically a Cornell IEEE branch member (just be sure to bring your membership card to our meetings).  Similarly, if you’ve paid your $5 for branch membership, but later decide you want to join national IEEE, we’ll give you the $5 back if you so desire.

See you on Thursday!

Get Involved in IEEE Committees!

January 21st, 2009 by admin -->

In our last meeting of Fall 2008, we talked about getting involved with Cornell IEEE - particularly in social activities for ECE students, and helping with the research showcase.  The application form for some open positions on the board is available to download on the main page.  You may fill it out and send it to ieee.cornell@gmail.com or print it out and slip it under the door of the IEEE office in PH 216. Please send it in as soon as possible.  Thank you.
