Greetings everybody,
This Thursday (9/24) there will be another IEEE gathering in the ECE Lounge on the second floor of Phillips Hall, from 4:45PM-5:45PM. We have lots of ice cream that needs eating, so come hungry, and sign up for membership! Come socialize with other ECE majors, and learn about upcoming IEEE activities for the semester.
Just to be clear, here is our current membership policy:
Ice cream (non-member): $1
Cornell IEEE branch membership: $5 for the year, gets you discounts on events (and eventually t-shirts) and free food at our meetings (eventually you’ll get a little membership card, we’re working on it), and you support local IEEE activities. We will also increase your awareness of existing campus resources, such as free software through microsoft (msdnaa), the IEEE spectrum magazine (http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/
), and IEEE Xplore, which allows you to search through journal articles on campus.
National IEEE membership:
$32 per year for student membership (grad or undergrad), you need to sign up for it through the IEEE website (
http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/join/join.html). You’ll get access to e-mails about conferences and seminars, discounts on conferences, and access to tons of resources (some of which are already given to you by Cornell, some of which are purely IEEE provided). For a full list, go here:
http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/benefits/index.html
We have this policy because there are many people who do not necessarily want to become members of national IEEE, but would like to support the local chapter. If you are already a national IEEE membership, you are automatically a Cornell IEEE branch member (just be sure to bring your membership card to our meetings). Similarly, if you’ve paid your $5 for branch membership, but later decide you want to join national IEEE, we’ll give you the $5 back if you so desire.
See you on Thursday!

Hello students in ECE!
Mark your calendars for May 08, 2009, because starting at 1PM, the first annual ECE Day will be held. ECE Day is a festival / carnival-like for ECE students and faculty to get together and have fun. The event is also to showcase the ECE major - what we do, and how we can have fun - to all students of the Cornell community. Here are some examples of what will happen on ECE Day:
- BBQ - Prof. Pollack, Prof Belina, and others will be flipping burgers!
- Dunk tank! Director Tsuhan Chen has volunteered himself to be dunked on ECE Day! (We are also actively soliciting more professors, so keep your eyes out on the day of the event…)
- Research and student project showcase with PRIZES! (e.g. Macbook)
- Video games, outdoor activities, and many more!
- ECE banquet at night (Statler!)
Please join us for a day of fun and activities.
We are actively looking for more help in the following areas:
- We are always looking for more game ideas! If you have an idea for a game/activity that is fun and can be implemented easily, please let us know
- We are looking for volunteers in all areas - from organizational, brainstorming, banquet, and logistics, etc.
If you have any input for ECE Day, or would like to help out, please let us know by e-mailing ieee.cornell@gmail.com
For more details, please check out the ECE Day page on this website as well!
Hope to see you on May 8th!
