General Body Meeting and membership details!

This Thursday (9/24) there will be another IEEE gathering in the ECE Lounge on the second floor of Phillips Hall, from 4:45PM-5:45PM. We have lots of ice cream that needs eating, so come hungry, and sign up for membership! Come socialize with other ECE majors, and learn about upcoming IEEE activities for the semester.
Just to be clear, here is our current membership policy:
Ice cream (non-member): $1
Cornell IEEE branch membership: $5 for the year, gets you discounts on events (and eventually t-shirts) and free food at our meetings (eventually you’ll get a little membership card, we’re working on it), and you support local IEEE activities. We will also increase your awareness of existing campus resources, such as free software through microsoft (msdnaa), the IEEE spectrum magazine (http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/
National IEEE membership:
$32 per year for student membership (grad or undergrad), you need to sign up for it through the IEEE website (http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/join/join.html). You’ll get access to e-mails about conferences and seminars, discounts on conferences, and access to tons of resources (some of which are already given to you by Cornell, some of which are purely IEEE provided). For a full list, go here: http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/benefits/index.htmlWe have this policy because there are many people who do not necessarily want to become members of national IEEE, but would like to support the local chapter. If you are already a national IEEE membership, you are automatically a Cornell IEEE branch member (just be sure to bring your membership card to our meetings). Similarly, if you’ve paid your $5 for branch membership, but later decide you want to join national IEEE, we’ll give you the $5 back if you so desire.
